I don't know what kind of bug this is but it was big. It is now in a kitty's tummy. It flew in the house Friday night when I was letting the cats in for the night. It looks like a little old man with fangs. To me, anyhow! When clicked, this photo will open, full size, in a new window.
The moth is unidentified. But I know that the spider is a barn spider.

Camera Critters
I noticed a tiny spot of blue in the grass near the barn this morning and instead of finding a blue butterfly, I found an Eastern Tailed Blue butterfly being eaten by a flower (or crab) spider.
These spiders wait on flowers and inject victims' heads with venom. They then suck out the body of the butterfly. As I moved blades of grass about to get a better photograph, the spider would drag its dinner further away. You can see that there was clover in the grass. The butterfly and the spider were smaller than the clover.

Please forgive my indulgence for posting six photos. But I love these gentle creatures. These red-spotted salamanders (or newts?) were captured during the fifth and sixth grade aquatic insect and crustacean expedition (other creatures can be seen here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here — whew!). After the tramping, I sat with my Canon and experimented photographing into aquariums that held the specimens. I think the salamanders look so dinosaur-like when they swim. I was driving on my bird road when I saw these two does far off. They stayed for a long time while I took photos. But this photo as they turned to leave the field was more engaging than the others. Taken with the Kodak and a 10x optical zoom.Camera Critters or the graphic above.
My neighbor's horses were feeling frisky in the spring air a week ago. This was a good attempt with my new Canon Rebel with action shots. Besides the flower photos, I found these three frogs in a very small pond on the trail during our Green Up Day activity at school. Love taking frog photos: they're fun. The kids also pointed out the frog egg mass in the pond. It's not much of a photo (the last one here) but here it is.
