Sunflower Seeds!

Red Squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus)

That's a sunflower seed in the squirrel's mouth. We provide several bazillion million seeds for the chickadees every winter. I don't know if I can afford the squirrels eating them, too!

A Squirrel In Snow Tunnel

red squirrel 92.jpg
Red Squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus)

Red squirrels travel open spaces by tunneling under the snow. They are safe from predators under there. Once in a while they pop up through the snow to see what's going on. This little one is on her way to the peanut tree for peanuts and sunflower seeds. In the photo below you can get a feeling for the huge space she traveled to get to the tree.

Red Squirrel Running

Red Squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus)

I tried to capture a little squirrel as she ran over the snow as fast as she could. The photo is not great, but I enjoy it! And the squirrel is in the air!

Peanuts!

Red Squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus)

I buy enough whole, unsalted peanuts every winter to sink a ship. The squirrels love them and hide them everywhere under the snow.

Merry Christmas!

Red squirrel
Tamiascurus hudsonicus

This is the photo that we picked for our Christmas card this year. If you have not gotten it yet, that is because I have not yet mailed them. I had a two week argument with Snapfish about these cards and they finally fixed all of the problems. Trying to use the Snapfish support phones is nearly impossible. But they are done, and we are happy with the cards.

Thank you to all of my subscribers, viewers, and all of you who enjoy my photographs. I hope everyone has peaceful holidays

   MERRY CHRISTMAS!

A Red Squirrel in the Cottonwood

Red squirrel (3)

Tamiasciurus hudsonicus

The kids are I followed the chickens out to the small grove of cottonwoods in August and this red squirrel was furious with us and the chickens. Ironman got me my camera and then Willow the Beagle got out and chased the chickens and the squirrel. It was quite a noisy morning!

First Red Squirrel

Tamiasciurus hudsonicus
This is my first red squirrel photo this winter. This was a young, skittish squirrel and was very difficult to capture. I keep wondering what happened to the wonderful horde of squirrels that were at the bird tree last year.
