Crows Chasing Hawk

Hawk & Crows 1.jpg
Red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)

In October we were in New Hampshire again while John worked. The weather was perfectly beautiful after the snow and dark skies of home. Outside enjoying the sun, I heard the familiar squawk of crows chasing their enemy the hawk. I managed to get some shots of the chase but they were poorly composed. Nobody in the sky would keep still!

A Panting Crow

Corvus brachyrhynchos
Just like dogs and cats, crows pant in the heat. I found this crow panting during our July heat wave this summer. He was near the Chamberlin farm on a mostly dead tree. Watching him, I ended up feeling worse for him than I did for myself. At least I don't wear black and sit on the top of a tree in the full sun during the hottest part of the day. Silly crow.
