I think it is a bit easier on one's rear end (and clothing) to slide down this flume instead of our flume across the road. These flumes are a local favorite. This site is about a half mile up the Long Pond Road (behind the old Mill Brook Store). You'll see a tiny turn out. Just park and walk down the trail. Carefully.

Girl Goose
I have a whole series of shots of this girl waddling in the road at a Westmore farm. Someday I'll put them together in a video._/\_/\_

Lake Willoughby and Mount Pisgah
The white "field"' under Mount Pisgah on the left is Lake Willoughby — which is crowded with trucks and ice fishers. Mount Pisgah's cliffs are where peregrine falcons nest in the spring. The hiking trails are closed until the baby falcons are independent. This photo was taken about four miles from my house on Saturday in a farmer's field during my bird hunt drive (scroll down for flying turkeys and snow buntings).

Flying Turkeys
I stalked a flock of wild turkeys today. They began to fly down the hill I was on and I managed to catch many in flight. More of the photos can be seen in my Wild Turkeys Set on Flickr. They are not very graceful when they fly. But it was wonderful hearing them call to each other as they met under a grove of fir trees after their flight.

Sentinel Rock
This glacial erratic was deposited thousands of years ago as the North American glacier melted. It has stood watch over Willoughby Lake (a lake dug out of the earth by the same glacier) for eons. In the days to come, I will post photos of the stunning views of the Green Mountains that can be seen from the meadow around Sentinel Rock. Below is one of the wildflowers in autumn. Sentinel Rock is a few miles from my house on the eastern side of Willoughby Lake.

Hair Appointment
When clicked, this photo will open, full size, in a new window.
If it is school break week, it must be time for a hair appointment. I go up the road a mile then down the Cook Road for a couple miles, into Westmore (you know it is Westmore when the road is paved). And there it is: Golden Touch Hair Salon, where I catch up with the county's Technorati Tags: Westmore, VT, Golden Touch Hair Salon, Bald Mountain, Wheelock Mountain, Cook Road, Barton, VT

I was photographing Haystack Mountain over Long Pond in Westmore when this sandpiper-type bird lit behind me. I managed to get off this one shot before it flew away. We cannot decide which species this is.When clicked, this photo will open, full size, in a new window.
