White Admiral

Limenitis arthemis

We had a lot of white admiral butterflies this summer. They have the most interesting larva (seen above). I have never seen these caterpillars here, but obviously they must be here. Click on the photo to view it larger. They are very well camouflaged, so I'll be looking carefully next year!

A White Admiral

I enjoy photographing the white admirals when they light to drink the moisture they find in the earth. But on this day, I was startled to see the wonderful colors under the wing that I had never seen before. What a great surprise!
