Prunes pensylvanica

These are the first trees to blossom here in my world. I haven't even collected the fruit, but I know the blossom. This year, I will follow the tree and photograph the fruit. These trees are all over the woods. I assume the birds and bears enjoy eating the cherries when they are ripe.

Pin Cherry?

Prunus pensylvanica

I think this is pin cherry (Prunus pensylvanica). It is the first blossoming tree in northern Vermont. Many people here call it dogwood because it is the first blossom and it is white. Others call it wild cherry. It is very common in the forest, roadside and fields. It grows on a tall slender tree. I will be following the development of the fruit to see if I have identified this correctly.

I posted a different photo of these blossoms here. The flowers are in bunches. There are five petals and five sepals. If you can add any information, please leave a comment.

Lens Day: Cinco

Trees with these flowers are blooming all over the foresst of northern Vermont. This is from one of the many trees blossoming in my woods. We think this is pin cherry (Prunus pensylvanica) but we cannot confirm this. An Internet search of pin cherry blossoms returns photos of this flower and photos of completely different flowers. But all of us up here call these trees wild cherry.
