Macro Monday: An Alder Catkin

Alnus serrulata

This is an alder catkin. We checked in on our house in northern Vermont to see what happened over the winter. We've decided that this grove of alders has to go, so they will be brush hogged soon. The female catkins are smaller, rounder and browner than the male and they grow next to the males. You can't see them here though.

Thank you for visiting!
