Canada Geese Eat Dandelions

When I downloaded these photos to the computer, I was wonderfully surprised to see that I had captured a goose eating dandelions in John's field. He had wondered, he said, what had happened to the dandelions there. They kept disappearing. Whole sections of the field are now cleared of dandelions. That's a shame because finches love to eat the dandelion puffs.

I heard from Matt this morning — four baby geese have hatched in Vermont! I hope we are able to get photos of them!

Canada Goose

I know we have all posted geese photos but I liked this one for a few reasons: I took it from the road (not the house), the cattail in the foreground, and the lighting. There is a tranquility aout this photo that I enjoy looking at. When clicked, this photo will open, full size, in a new window.

One Single Impression: Color

Geese glide on snow melt

Otter tumble through wet slate
Beaver bog in spring

The photo of my beloved beaver bog was taken Saturday morning, 19 April 2008. For Sandy: see the snow in the woods? Still here, everywhere. The otter are back and even though they were swimming slowly it was still too quick for me to capture on camera. Besides the goose and gander here, there is a red-winged blackbird on the drowned tree. Please click on the photo in order to see the beauty here. There is no better spot on earth to inspire haiku as here. I think that this is my best haiku at this time. Gentle constructive critiques will be appreciated. I am understanding a little about the form of haiku now and I got a book this week.

Signs of Spring: Geese in Beaver Bog

Photos are at full 10x zoom
My pair of nesting Canada geese are back!
(That link takes you to lots of info on my other blog.)

They have been here at least 24 hours, so I am pretty sure this is them.

The golden grass you see here is a hummock of the type that they will eventually nest on.
It will remain above water, giving them great views of incoming predators.
Mom will brood the eggs and Dad will cruise the waters, ever watchful of sneak attacks.
