SkyWatch Friday: Forest Fire Sunset

Forest Fire Sunset
This was the sunset on May 31, 2010. We had a very smoky weekend because of the forest fires in Quebec. The smoke make the sunset spectacular. This was taken near May Pond about a mile from home. Please visit more SkyWatch Friday participants for more spectacular photographs.

Salt Works Bay Sunset

Old Saybrook CT weekend (79), originally uploaded by meeyauw.

We stayed at Salt Works Bay, Old Saybrook, Connecticut on Long Island Sound in late September for a weekend with family. The sunset on the one dry evening we had was breathtaking. Instead of mushrooms (which I have been posting lately) there will be a series of photos of this sunset. I hope you enjoy them!

Sky Watch Friday: New Haven Harbor Sunset

New Haven Harbor at City Point, New Haven, Connecticut
I'm down here visiting Anna and Aaron who live a few dozen yards from Long Island Sound on New Haven Harbor. I took Daisy, their dog, for a walk down to the pier this evening and took some shots of the sunset.

Editing a Sunset

Unedited, uncropped photograph of a sunset at my house this past week.

Same photograph edited using exposure blending with Photomatix.
I think the overall photograph is excellent. But is it better than the original?

Same photograph edited with exposure blending with Photomatix.
I think the sky is outstanding but the foreground is of poor quality.

January Thaw

The high temperature today was over 50°F (10°C) but I managed to still keep some snow on the roof. Last week the temperatures hovered around zero (-18°C) all day long. This is the back of the house. Garage roof on left. Kitchen window above the kerosene tank. Big empty rooms are straight ahead behind that wall between the garage and the kitchen.

I messed around with color with a photo of a red sunset. You can see the sunset on Friday. I enjoy the silhouettes of the trees here.
