The moth is unidentified. But I know that the spider is a barn spider.

Garage Barn Spider

I have been watching this now huge barn spider as she grows and builds a beautiful web. I used iPhoto effects on the photo.

I was right: the spider is eating the hornets. I saw something moving on the spider tonight (yes, sickening to watch), grabbed the camera, played with exposures and zoom. The hornets have almost finished repairing the nest. There is one un-eaten wasp hanging below the hornet nest. The spider is still not identified by bugguide.net. I hope they get back to me soon. The nights are very cold and a frost is going to be soon. We'll see what happens then.
