White Birch Catkins

I haven't paid attention to when these catkins appeared. They could have been in the birch tree since summer. I have to learn to be more observant. But they were very obvious to me today as they hung down over our snowshoe trail. Below is a poorly focused photo of the seeds after they fell off the catkin. They are trefoils so that they attached easily to the fur of passing mammals.
