City Daily Photo Theme Day: Glass

It is still below 0°F (-18°C) every night and every morning here with a heavy snow cover, so this photo is a pleasant reminder of last summer when I took the St. Johnsbury Excursion Train to Lyndonville. We passed these old glass insulators on the powerlines.

Did you know that it has recently been found that glass has a fractal structure? Click here for more information.

  1. Love this photo!

I went to a fair in Lyndonville once, back in the 70's, and had a great time.

  2. When I was young, there was a stretch of lines where they had come through and updated the poles. They left hundreds of those insulators all over the ground. I remember sifting through them, finding a few still intact.
Thank you for the visual reminder for a memory lost.

  3. This is very interesting. I see usually a white or brown porcelain for this and never like these.

  4. These are great! I'm surprised to see them still up on the pole, since there is a vast sub-culture of collectors of these antiques out and about.
