It is still below 0°F (-18°C) every night and every morning here with a heavy snow cover, so this photo is a pleasant reminder of last summer when I took the St. Johnsbury Excursion Train to Lyndonville. We passed these old glass insulators on the powerlines.

ReplyDeleteI went to a fair in Lyndonville once, back in the 70's, and had a great time.
When I was young, there was a stretch of lines where they had come through and updated the poles. They left hundreds of those insulators all over the ground. I remember sifting through them, finding a few still intact.

This is very interesting. I see usually a white or brown porcelain for this and never like these.
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I'm surprised to see them still up on the pole, since there is a vast sub-culture of collectors of these antiques out and about.
