Finally a Goldfinch

American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis) -3.jpg
Carduelis tristis

I've been trying for ages to shoot a goldfinch in the wild and not at a feeder. It finally happened one July day as I walked with the cats in the back field. The finches, warblers and sparrows were keeping a close eye on all of us. This isn't a good shot, but it's the best so far that I have. I'm learning more about their behavior so that next summer I should be more successful.

  1. A shot that captures what you want is a good shot even if the resolution and composition isn't as good as you'd like. Congrats!

  2. Thank you, Mike. So how do the big time professionals get all those great shots? I want to know. (The answer is probably thousands of dollars of big lenses!)
