Odd Shots: White-breasted Nuthatch

A white-breasted nuthatch finds something to eat in my bird tree, which, as you can see, has been throughly checked out by the woodpeckers. I hope this is odd enough. I had never seen a nuthatch dig something out of the tree before (the bark was flying but I missed those shots). When clicked, these photos will open, full size, in a new window. 4. They are very cute little guys. They must have strong little claws! (Do tiny ones have 'talons'? It seems the wrong word.)

  5. What a great picture of the nuthatch who wanted to be a skydiver!!! You've shot this at just the right moment in time - and your explanation about the woodpeckers explained why the tree looked as if it had been drilled!

  15. Perhaps he was cleaning up the woodpecker's leftovers. Odd of him to do that.
