Photo Hunters: Six: Ebony Jewelwing Damselfly

Calopteryx maculata

Damselflies are insects and have six legs.
This Ebony Jewelwing damselfly is one of 170 damselfly species in New England. It is one of only five nearactic (arctic and temperate parts of North America and Greenland) species of the Calopteryx genus. They are pretty noticeable as they fly about because their wings are solid black.

  1. I lovely capture! I got some of these recently too, but haven't had time to post them. Nice and crisp.

Your new life and routine may be quite different than your old one.

We had a dragonfly come around us on our last outing and hang out with us and eat all our biting flies! I had that happen once before and I thought of it as a mystical experience.

  2. Great shot of the damselfly. I find them so hard to photograph.

Thanks for visiting mine and you are right that it's a dam across the lake that the geese are sitting on. They are almost never at that part of the lake except in the winter when they forage in the old grasses and get some sun on the paved part.
