Purple Finch

On the morning of April 18, this finch landed on the window thermometer outside the window. Because it was red, I simply assumed it was a redpoll. It wasn't until that night that I thought a few things odd about it: its bill was strange, and the redcap was not there. I looked in my books and found that I had my first purple finch in the camera. It was exciting!

The finch posed for me at the window. He knew I was there. I even walked across the room to get the camera and he stayed in place. It wasn't until the cats saw him that there was a problem. Zorro jumped onto the table in the window and began chattering the way cats do. Then he rose on his haunches. That's when the finch attacked the cat — he rose off the thermometer and beat his wings on the window. Zorro got so excited that he nearly went through the window. But the finch left, Zorro calmed down and I had my photos.
