Indigo Bunting (Passerina cyanea)
Until I saw this bird in the view finder, I didn't even know it was in the field of sunflowers. And at that moment, I saw my very first indigo bunting. After some research, I found that the vocalizations it was making were alarm calls. It was flitting just below the top of the sunflowers. I'm sorry that I alarmed it but glad that I caught it on my camera.

Oh wow! That is a great photo! I have never seen a blue bunting and to find it on a yellow sunflower -- great timing! I just sat all afternoon waiting for a visit from a pair of humming birds who decided yesterday that they like my waterfall. (It's only a little one), but one of them deliberately perched under the stream of water and flurried his wings a few times, to make sure he got really wet. I have never seen a humming bird do this before. It has been very hot so maybe that's why. Of course I didn't have my camera with me yesterday and today he didn't stay around long enough. So I'll try again tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Drew, the color of that bird next to the yellow sunflower is fantastic capture! I never heard of a blue bunting until now. You have some wonderful photographs! I see you must take your camera everywhere you go like me!
