I'm mostly all better but I'm still very tired (staying up too late to watch the World Series?) and coughing. So I am taking advantage of the cold weather to stay in bed with the cats and read Middlesex while Turnip (with the black patches) and Mousie (the shaved blue tabby) keep me company. Mousie washed my hand thoroughly after I took this photo.

This black floor tile from the Vermont State House is not black marble from Isle La Motte, Vermont. It is black limestone. It has fossils embedded in it. The floor of the State House is made of white and black squares. The white squares are white marble from elsewhere in Vermont. The quarry in Isle La Motte is now closed to stone cutting and is a science lab.
